Themes

Markant includes four themes. Click the Aa button in the toolbar to switch between them.

System

Follows your macOS appearance (light or dark). Uses San Francisco, Apple’s system font. Neutral and familiar.

Paper

Warm tones with serif typography. Designed to feel like reading on good paper. Adapts to light and dark mode.

Ink

A dark theme with high contrast and clean typography. Always dark, regardless of system setting. Best for focused reading in dim environments.

Academic

Compact serif layout with tighter spacing, inspired by research papers and textbooks. Good for long, dense documents. Adapts to light and dark mode.

Content width

All themes support three content widths:

  • Narrow — tight reading column, best for prose
  • Relaxed — comfortable middle ground (default)
  • Wide — uses more of the window, good for tables and code

Select width from the toolbar theme picker.

Zoom

  • ⌘+ / ⌘- — step zoom in or out
  • ⌘0 — reset to default
  • Pinch the trackpad to zoom smoothly

Zoom level persists per document and resets when you navigate to a different file.
